Women face additional barriers when seeking rehab help

If you think it’s hard to be a recovering addict, try being a single mom who is going through recovery while trying to keep her family happy, healthy and safe. That’s just one of the challenges unique to women recovering from a drug or alcohol addiction. Residential rehab programs are a near impossibility for many single moms, thanks to prohibitive costs for admittance, lack of health insurance and the difficulty of finding long term child care. Even those women in recovery who use outpatient and after-care services such as AA find it difficult to afford or arrange for childcare.
Women in destructive relationships are also at a high-risk, and often find it difficult to get the help they need. Many times, in these relationships, the man is also abusing drugs or alcohol, and the woman feels trapped – lose the addiction, lose the guy – in a cycle of addiction. For these women as well, getting into rehab can seem like an impossible journey.
What’s the solution? Because women need to work extra-hard to break the cycle of addiction, they need to work with caring professionals who know their issues and concerns best. Rehab and recovery centers for women are outstanding places for the woman battling addiction to get the mental, physical and spiritual help she needs to get back on her feet. And because cost is often an obstacle for many women – it is urged that everyone give to those women rehab clinics in need of donations and public support.
