Women are just as able to become addicted to drugs as men, but often for different reasons. Hence it is important to determine the underlying causes. Many women get involved in using drugs due to peer pressure or the curiosity they have about drugs. They feel they can try them just to see how they feel. It may be the pressure of it from a boyfriend or spouse as well to do drugs with them.

Many women are very self conscious about their bodies and so some women fall into drugs trying to look good. Using drugs is a very common way for women to lose weight. The most common drug for this is known as speed. Sometimes it is just to get more energy to get through the day as it can be tiring for a woman to balance her home life and her career.

The environment in which a woman is raised can also cause her to become addicted to drugs. Statistically, women that grow up with a parent that uses drugs are more likely to do so as well. They may believe it is a very acceptable way to live their life.

Drugs often become a coping mechanism for many women that aren’t happy with their life as well. Instead of dealing with their issues they turn to drugs to make it all go away for awhile. Some women with medical problems or mental health issues self medicate with drugs as well. It is important for women to understand the downward spiral that occurs when they use drugs in order to reduce the number of then engaging in it.
